ABOUT

VMG Energy Group is an advisory firm providing a range of services including strategy, project development, market support, business development, complex issue resolution as well as assistance in securing different stages of development and take out financing.  VMG Energy Group has the relationships and capability to build and manage interdisciplinary teams to seamlessly support and accelerate achieving its client’s goals.

Scott Provinse is the founding principal of VMG Energy Group.  Prior to founding VMG Energy Group, Scott was Director of Government Programs for SunEdison, at one point the world’s largest Renewable Energy Company.  In his almost 9 years at SunEdison he saw the company (and the industry) mature from nascent start-up mode to established leader for electric energy generation.   From 2010-2015, Scott was an active member of American Council on Renewable Energy’s (ACORE) Leadership Council and National Defense and Security Advisory Committee.

Scott began his renewable energy career at SunEdison as Associate General Counsel.  When he joined, SunEdison was still a startup so he was involved in all aspects of the business, from series financing, office leasing, HR and OSHA issues to international business expansion and tenders.  As the company grew Scott began focusing primarily on Power Purchase Agreements with commercial and government customers as well as supporting the company’s international expansion.   In 2009, Scott moved full time to the business side of the company to focus on creating programs for government customers as well as supporting the company’s local and national policy objectives and continuing to provide targeted support for the international business, new product teams and strategic partnerships (including the founding of SolarTAC). Scott has actively negotiated all of SunEdison’s DOE/NREL PPAs, DOL PPAs, Navy and Air Force PPAs, as well as SunEdison’s GSA efforts, including its 1.1MW PV Plant at the Denver Federal Center. Scott also helped establish SunEdison’s UAE business, including securing its first tender for Masdar.

With VMG Energy Group, Scott continues to collaborate with industry leading companies as well as the Navy, Air Force, and Army, among others, on innovative programs to provide cost effective energy or savings to government and private clients.  Scott is often brought into transactions when difficult issues arise and assistance is needed to close.  Scott speaks regularly on renewable energy, the federal energy market and for the Department of State’s energy education program.

Scott holds a BSS from Cornell College and a JD from the University of Houston Law Center. Prior to joining SunEdison, Scott ran his own yacht and marine business splitting time between the Caribbean, the East Coast, and the Mediterranean. Prior to sailing, Scott practiced law as a litigator with Bracewell LLP in Houston, Texas, and served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Harvey Brown, Jr., 152 Civil District Court in Harris County, Texas. Before attending law school, Scott worked extensively with a variety of health human and services organizations in Chicago and Texas.
